Those extra eight miles we rode by mistake?
Enter Fred & Janet! They met us at the end if the day and gave us a lift over a side-trip segment across the river to Niobrara. The distance? Oh, about eight miles....
We spent three nights in Niobrara visiting with Bea & Jim.
They have a small church on the Santee Sioux Reservation. Jim drives for a transport company while Bea makes home visits and has Bible studies at a nutrition center. By choosing to move to the area about six years ago, they have stepped into a legacy from Bea's grandfather; he ministered on the reservation in his day.
Much gratitude to the Lutheran church who let us stay in their facility the three nights we were there!
We had fun visiting the nutrition center,
Joined in an evening prayer meeting, picked up a little trash
and finished with a prayer time up on the hill. A friend in Montana who connected us with Bea and Jim joined us by phone.
It was a pivotal time; the grieving and asking forgiveness for historical wrongs in each place on this prayer journey was done. "It is finished" Jesus said on the cross. He laid down his life in sacrifice, paid once for all to have life and be reconciled to God. Time now for us to move on from grief over the past and embrace the present, to proclaim that the opportunity to join the process of restoration is here; to declare with faith and confidence what will be. Time to start celebrating the goodness of God with thankful, joyful hearts. Later we celebrated with good food.
